SAN FRANCISCO – Mayor Gavin Newsom announced today that he has named Ricky Le as the Political Director and Abbe Ross as the Chief Operating Officer of his gubernatorial campaign.

"These are difficult times, and California needs bold solutions,"

Mayor Newsom said. "Ricky and Abbe's experience and expertise will be key drivers of our effort to turn California in a new direction."

Prior to joining Mayor Newsom's campaign, Le served as the Executive Director of the California Democratic Congressional Delegation (comprising the state's 34 Democratic Members of Congress) and was a senior advisor to Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) in Washington, DC. Le has also worked with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

(DCCC) on California campaigns, voter registration efforts, and candidate recruitment. Le earned a bachelor's degree in Politics from UC Santa Cruz and a law degree from Santa Clara University.

Ross was Deputy Campaign Manager for then-Sen. Hillary Clinton's successful New Hampshire primary bid and was Director of Operations for the Clinton campaign in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, and West Virginia. She also served as a Senior Compliance Associate at PCMS, LLC, where her clients included federal candidates, members of Congress, and Political Action Committees (PACs).

Le and Ross join Senior Advisor Garry South, Campaign Director Eric Jaye, Campaign Manager Nick Clemons, and Finance Director Paige Barry at Newsom headquarters. The senior campaign team also includes Benenson Strategy Group and its principals Joel Benenson, who was chief campaign pollster to President Obama and the American Association of Political Consultants' 2008 "Pollster of the Year," and Peter Brodnitz, who was the AAPC's 2006 "Pollster of the Year."

After meeting with voters and answering their direct questions at multiple "Conversations About California's Future," Mayor Newsom announced his candidacy for Governor earlier this year by releasing an online video on GavinNewsom.com that ties his record of success as Mayor to his vision for California´s future.

"I´m running for Governor because California needs a new direction. In San Francisco, we´ve not accepted excuses. We´ve protected people´s civil rights, created a universal health care program, protected teachers from layoffs and enacted a local stimulus plan that will put people back to work and save jobs. And we´ve done it while balancing our budgets and seeing our bond ratings go up," Mayor Newsom said.

"California needs new leadership. We can´t keep returning to the same old tired solutions and expect a different result. If we stand up and take a new approach, I believe we can change California´s direction and create a better future."
