Storm Warning Issued for Florida, Alabama

A tropical storm warning was issued Sunday for Florida and Alabama as a tropical depression organized off the Gulf Coast, meteorologists said.

The depression, on the brink of becoming Tropical Storm Claudette, was located about 125 miles south-southeast of Apalachicola and moving toward the Florida Panhandle at 16 mph with sustained winds of 35 mph, the National Hurricane Center reported.

The depression was expected to be near Florida's northern Gulf Coast by late Sunday afternoon, CNN reported.

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Ana -- the first Tropical Storm of the 2009 hurricane season -- was expected to make landfall early Monday on the Leeward Islands as it moved toward Cuba, Caribbean360.com reported Sunday.

Ana was being followed by Tropical Storm Bill, moving west at 13 mph with sustained winds of 45 mph and located about 1,640 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

Bill was expected to gain strength and become a major hurricane by midweek, AccuWeather.com reported Sunday.
